Local farmer's market hosts ‘Giving Thanks’ potluck for the community

For the end of market season, the East Atlanta Village Farmer’s Market invited all to neighborhood dinner

ATLANTA — For the East Atlanta Village Farmer’s Market, the approach of Thanksgiving marked the end of the market season - the time of year here in Atlanta when the weather does not allow for bountiful harvests.

The local market in East Atlanta Village is a neighborhood staple that runs nearly all year long. Nearly. For the chilliest months of the year, December through March, the market closes down and reopens in the spring.

As a gesture of gratitude, the Farmer’s Market hosts an annual ‘Giving Thanks’ potluck-style community dinner that began shortly after nightfall.

Located in the heart of the Village, the outdoor market lined up banquet tables along the middle of the market space. Attendees ranged from weekly patrons, residents and market vendors to community groups.

The line for the banquet stretched all the way to Flat Shoals Avenue as the attendees prepared for the holiday feast. String lights crisscrossed overhead as fire pits and candles provided the welcoming ambiance the market is known for.

According to the Community Farmer’s Market website, the keystone the farmer’s market provides for the community every Thursday will reopen April 16, 2020.
