Local students design their ideal playground in East Point

East Point Parks & Recreation partners with KaBOOM! and Newell Brands to rebuild Sykes Park

EAST POINT, Ga. — Residents in the Ward-C district of East Point will have something to be thankful for a little early this November. All thanks to the continued partnership of East Point Parks & Recreation, the national non-profit KaBoom and Newell Brands, who provided the grant for building supplies.

Together, along with over 100 citizens and volunteers, the playground facilities at Sykes Park in East Point received a much-needed face-lift this afternoon. Making this the fourth public park in East Point to receive a grant from KaBoom.

Braving temperatures in the low-30s, volunteers were split into teams as construction began shortly after few words of encouragement from the staff at KaBoom, Newell Brands and even the mayor of East Point herself, Deana Holiday Ingraham.

Following a brief ribbon-cutting this afternoon, the new park facilities were deemed open for the public. Conveniently located near a couple of local East Point schools, the playground will be a public space for all children and families to enjoy. Sykes Park is located at 3224 Dodson Drive Connector in East Point.
