New charter school finds their forever home in East Point

Resurgence Hall celebrates their grand opening at downtown location

EAST POINT, Ga. — What started as a dream for a group of community members six years ago, to create a learning facility that embodied excellence and opportunity for their children, became a permanent thing of reality on Sept. 27.

Located at 1706 Washington Road in the downtown district of East Point, Resurgence Hall Charter School officially became the fourth charter to take up permanent residence within the city limits of East Point.

Temporarily based in College Park for the past two years, this move represents an upgrade in accommodations for the nascent learning facility. The East Point location is not only larger, taking up nearly an entire city block, but a sense of permanence as the purchase of their current location became official this fall due to the academic performance of the current eighth-graders.

Resurgence Hall Founder and Executive Director Tori Jackson Hines had this to share, “At age twelve, they purchased a city block, they secured $6 million dollars in funding to create a lasting legacy that will exist from here on out. Most people don’t do that in a lifetime.”

Since its inception in 2016, Resurgence Hall has strived to maintain the edicts of their mission statement. Within the first two years of their existence, they earned a ‘B’ from the Governor's Office of Student Achievements (GOSA), placing us at the #3 spot for all Georgia state charters.

“We are so excited and proud to have a state charter school (Resurgence Hall) relocate to the heart of our downtown. To be able to provide a school choice option to our residents but also residents in the surrounding area,” lauded East Point Mayor, Deana Holiday Ingraham.

In addition to the Mayor being in attendance, several board members and dozens of parents and community members attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 27.  The current class of eighth-graders who will be graduating this year were honored with a ceremony to sign the purchase agreement for Resurgence Hall.
