COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Sharing the same complex as the Georgia International Convention Center, the 100,000 square-foot Gateway Center Arena opened on Nov 7th becoming the largest indoor sports venue in the metro Atlanta area south of 1-20.

Approximately 400 individuals comprised of area business, civic, and governmental members from the South Fulton region attended the event. The venue will be the home of the College Park Skyhawks, the G-team affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks as well the brand-new home for the Atlanta Dream, Atlanta’s WNBA team.

The $46 million locale has a seating capacity of 3,500 for basketball games and 5,000 for concerts. The Skyhawks will be the first to utilize the space as their season begins Nov. 21 with the Dream hosting their first game next year in May.

College Park mayor, Jack Longino called the arena, the "gateway for the entire Southern Crescent" as he personally called upon every city council member in attendance to stand in recognition.

The arena will be hosting a free fan event, Gateway Arena Fan Fest on Saturday, Nov. 9 as a celebratory launch of the venue for the citizens of College Park and all surrounding areas. Residents will have their first opportunity to view the new home for the Atlanta Dream as well as kick-off the Skyhawks basketball season.
