Be Active Gwinnett Pop-Up and Play days are growing

After its launch last summer, Be Active Gwinnett is kicking off more Pop-Up and Play Days around the community.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Live Healthy Gwinnet will host numerous events this summer encouraging Gwinnett County residents to get out and get active!

Yesterday, Rhodes Jordan Park served as the location for the first Pop-Up and Play day of the summer hosted by Be Active Gwinnett.

"We are promoting kids to be physically active. We are being mindful that childhood obesity rates here in Gwinnett County and Georgia are high," said Lindsey Jorstad, Outreach Manager for the Department of Community Services.

Children enjoyed playing hula hoops, soccer, long jump, and other activities that encouraged them to put the tablets down and get moving. It's all apart of Live Healthy Gwinnett's initiative to promote healthy living.

"Be Active Gwinnett specifically targets those play desert areas who usually have low access to green space or structured activities," Jorstad said.

The program plans to implement more creative ways to influence children and adults from the neighborhood to participate in physical activities this summer. For more information visit Live Healthy Gwinnett.
