Pizza with Police community outreach event receives great support despite rain

Large crowds showed up for the annual neighborhood initiative with the Lawrenceville Police Department.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — The dark storm clouds did not stop Lawrenceville residents from coming out for Thursday's Pizza with the Police.

Lawrenceville Police Department along with the City of Lawrenceville hosted its annual community event, right before the rain shut things down.

"It's an opportunity for the officers to see the people we don't normally see or a chance to encounter," Lt. Jake Parker said.

Kids and adults had a chance to look at the tools and equipment the police department uses.

Kids surrounded the K9 unit, eager to get an opportunity to pet K9 Ali. While some curiously asked Officer Christopher Carey what's tools he had on his gear belt.

"This is an opportunity for them to ask questions about the equipment we're carrying. Why we have such equipment," Lt. Paker said.

For nearly three years Pizza with the Police serves as a way the whole family can come and meet their local police department.

"It's important for us to meet everybody. The kids will ask a question mom and dad didn't think of. Mom and dad will think of a question that the kids didn't think of," Lt. Parker said.
