New 'satellite connection' scam has crooks walking right through your front door

They claim to work for Dish or Direct TV and walk right into the victim's home if allowed.

Scammers in north Georgia have apparently found a new way to case homes - and it involves walking right through the front door.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is warning the public to ask for identification before letting anyone in after reports of people posing as Dish Network and Direct TV workers.

At least one victim said that a person has come in claiming they needed to check satellite connections. Once they were inside, they asked people how many televisions they had and where they were located.

"If you have not made a service call, you can call these companies to verify the validity of these employees," the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Anyone who does feel they are being victimized by a scammer - or who spots a suspicious person near their home - can call 911. Those in Jackson County can also call the sheriff's office anonymous tip line at 706-367-3784.
