NEWNAN, Ga. – Out of three dozen neo-Nazi protestors and hundreds of counter-protestors who descended upon downtown Newnan over the weekend, only ten people were arrested.

Of the ten people arrested while protesting a Neo-Nazi rally in Newnan, Hector Barraza and Erin Galvin-McCoy, both from Georgia, were the only two facing a felony charge of obstruction. Most of the others were arrested for refusing to take off their masks, standing on the highway, or disorderly conduct.

Four of those arrested were from Georgia. The others traveled from Florida, North Carolina, and Nashville.

While police had braced for potential clashes between the Neo-Nazis and counter-protesters, they were able to successfully keep the two groups apart. This was all in part to 700 officers who were brought in from 42 different agencies.

The neo-Nazis entered downtown Newnan around 4 p.m. well-protected by the officers. Authorities had closed off roads downtown to secure their entrance into the downtown park away from hundreds of protestors.

The two groups were separated from each other by nearly 100 yards, as well as fencing, barricades, and dozens of Georgia State Troopers in riot gear.
