North Georgia sheriff's office uses train accident aftermath to warn drivers

The driver miraculously walked away unharmed.

DADE COUNTY, Ga. -- The picture shared by the Dade County Sheriff's Office shows a car hit by a train. From that photo, you couldn't tell the make or the model if you tried.

The accident happened Friday on Harris Road east of Georgia Route 58 in the north Georgia County. Despite the horrendous damage to the car, deputies said no one was injured in the crash.

However, they added one important message.

"Always look twice before crossing railroad tracks, and always use caution," the post said.

The Georgia State Patrol is handling the crash investigation and said the car struck the train on the left front side and then rotated and hit the train again - this time with the rear of the car - before leaving the roadway.

The driver, Anthony Wayne Thomas of Fort Payne, Alabama, was cited for running a signal indicating the approach of a train, driving while license suspended or revoked and not meeting the insurance requirements to operate a vehicle, according to the Georgia State Patrol crash report.
