ATLANTA -- The American Cancer Society is holding two Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk events in October.

The noncompetitive events are designed to inspire and unite the community in the fight against breast cancer.

Walks will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m. at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta and on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 9:30 a.m. at Jim Miller Park in Marietta.

Funds raised at the events will go towards breast cancer research, and in providing information and support to those affected by the disease.

Since 1993, more than 11 million supporters have raised more than $685 million nationwide, according to the American Cancer Society.

"Uniting with others at the Making Strides walk gives us power to make a real difference in the fight to end breast cancer," said Susan Laclaire, community manager for the American Cancer Society. "At the event we are able to celebrate survivorship and pay a meaningful tribute to those touched by the disease. Thanks to participants, the American Cancer Society is there for those who are currently dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis, those who may face a diagnosis in the future, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether because of education and risk reduction."
