Plane crash confirmed in east Georgia

The FAA and NTSB are investigating.

ELBERT COUNTY, Ga. — A pilot has been taken to the hospital after a plane crash in east Georgia.

According to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesperson Kathleen Bergen, the crash happened just outside of Elberton, Georgia around 2:40 p.m. Thursday. The pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft. The pilot's condition hasn't been released.

The FAA said the aircraft itself was a Super Acro Sport 1, a single-engine acrobatic plane. 

Local radio station WSGC reports that the crash happened off of Brewers Bridge Road near Kathwood Drive Extension.  WSGC reported that the pilot is 82 years old and was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash.
