Woman killed by falling tree in Sandy Springs

Strong storms with heavy winds were moving through the area

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A woman initially listed as critically injured after a tree fell on her car Thursday afternoon in Sandy Springs, has died, the medical examiner confirmed.

The incident happened on Mt. Paran Road. The road was closed for several hours as authorities investigated.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Aquarius Johnson, 38. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Johnson was an employee of the Atlanta Watershed Management and was driving a City of Atlanta vehicle at the time of the accident.

Strong storms with heavy winds were moving through the area when the call came in around 1 p.m. Trees were reported down across metro Atlanta - some even falling on houses - as a result.

However, this was the only reported death as a result of falling trees in the area that day.

The medical examiner arrived at the scene later in the day and Fulton County's chief medical examiner later confirmed the victim was dead.
