Police investigate after shots fired in Highlands

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at Barret Ave. and Highland Ave. around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to a spokesperson for the department.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating after shots were fired in the Highlands.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at Barret Ave. and Highland Ave. around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to a spokesperson for the department.

"Our preliminary investigation reveals that a bystanders vehicle was shot multiple times while some unknown shooters were firing their weapons at another individual," LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.

James Kammer, who lives in the area, said he was doing his typical morning routine when he heard arguing outside of his home.

"Next thing I know the argument stopped and I just heard a full clip unload," he said.

He described the sound of bullets ringing through the street. He immediately reached for his gun and ran outside to see what was happening.

"I saw my neighbor sitting on her front stoop just crying and screaming yelling someone tried to carjack me, someone tried to carjack me," he said.

WHAS11 spoke with the victim, but she did not want to go on camera. She said she had just dropped her son off at school and was returning home when a man tried to get into her vehicle.

She proceeded to drive away and said the man shot at her vehicle.

Police said no one was injured and the department will continue to investigate.
