Skeletal remains found near I-20, Chattahoochee River

According to police, any identification will have to wait on the completion of the medical examiner's forensic examination of the remains.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Crime scene technicians from the Fulton County Police Department along with techs from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were working together Sunday morning in an attempt to gather and identify skeletal remains found on Saturday.

According to Scott McBride with the Fulton County Police Department, the remains were discovered Saturday afternoon in a wooded area off of Patton Drive, not far from where Interstate 20 crosses the Chattahoochee River.

The GBI says that along with team members from their Atlanta office, the Alpha Team K9 Search & Rescue provided assistance, also.

McBride told 11Alive there was not much of a crime scene, and that they were going to have to wait until the medical examiner's office completes its forensic examination of the remains in the hope that they can identify who the remains belong to.

McBride said that at this point, there is not much more information available on the case. He anticipates it will take several days before the medical examiner's office can provide identifying information, "but that depends upon a lot of factors," he said. "So it may take a lot longer."
