Smoke shop in Midtown goes up in flames

The amount of smoke made it difficult for firefighters to locate the fire

ATLANTA — A smoke shop in Midtown Atlanta went up in smoke early Sunday morning. Literally.

According to Atlanta Fire Battalion Chief David Bohatch, crews had a difficult time locating the origin of the fire at the Village Smoke Shop off Juniper Street due to heavy smoke conditions.

He said the "difficulty of the construction" and the amount of debris made it a "rather complex situation" when crews were called to extinguish the blaze at around 4:30 a.m.

The shop suffered major damage, Bohatch said. While crews were able to save the building, other surrounding units had smoke damage.

No injuries were reported in the blaze.

According to its website, the store has been open since 2010.
