ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police are now saying the officer accused of hitting and killing a man on a moped after running a stop sign did try to render aid to the victim.
Questions surrounded the case after a video was posted on Instagram, showing the aftermath at the scene.
According to Georgia State Patrol, 24-year-old Officer Ryan Chandler ran the stop sign during dismissal time near Washington High School. Fifty-nine-year-old Marvin King was riding his moped in the area.
GSP said the officer did not have his emergency lights on at the time.
The video floating around on social media claims the officer didn't try to help. However, when 11Alive reached back out to APD on Tuesday about the crash, a spokesperson said that isn't the case.
"We know for a fact that Officer Chandler attempted to perform CPR on the man he struck," said APD Public Affairs Unit Director Carlos Campos.
Campos said any body or dash cam recovered by APD will be provided to GSP as part of the criminal investigation.
GSP said the crash report is not ready yet. The officer is currently on administrative leave.
