Kidnappers demanded $100k for mom's ransom

Four people were arrested and a fifth is on the run after a kidnapping Tuesday morning.

Four people were arrested and a fifth is on the run after a kidnapping Tuesday morning.

This morning Atlanta police rescued a mother who had been kidnapped in East Point. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Deborah Patrick's sons started receiving messages on their cell phones demanding $100,000 for her ransom.

East Point police alerted Atlanta Police officers who spotted the suspect's car on Metropolitan Parkway in Southwest Atlanta. Officers gave chase and the suspects wrecked in the parking lot of a business in the 600 block of Metropolitan Parkway.

“The situation was very fluid, the officers were monitoring the situation the whole time and that’s how they were able to get there quickly and rescue the victim," said Maj. Jeff Glazier with APD.

Patrick was okay but transported to the hospital out of caution.

According to the GBI, 23-year-old Terenzio McCurty exited the vehicle holding a gun. An APD officer shot him in the leg but he continued to run. McCurty and another suspect, 50-year-old John Penceil, were arrested near the scene. Joshua Fowler, 25, was found hiding in a dumpster and 43-year-old Demetrius Sims was arrested several hours later. A fifth suspect is still on the run.

The injured suspect was taken to Grady Hospital and is listed in stabile condition.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the officer-involved shooting investigation. Atlanta police are in charge of the investigation into the pursuit and East Point police are handling the kidnapping investigation.

At this time, it's not clear what, if any, relationship the victim has with the suspects.
