ATLANTA -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found shot to death inside a southwest Atlanta home, following what police are calling a domestic dispute.

According to Capt. Ven McGee with the Atlanta Police Department, an officer was patrolling the neighborhood near Cherry Laurel Lane around 2 a.m. when he was flagged down by a woman at the house regarding a shooting that happened inside her home.

When officers arrived to the home in the 2700 block, they found a man in his 30s dead from apparent gun shot wounds. The medical examiner confirmed that the man, who isn't yet being identified, was shot by someone else, but police are trying to figure out by who.

Investigators told 11Alive they were interviewing a 15-year-old and his mother, who were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Officials have not indicated what led up to the incident, only that it started as a domestic dispute.

11Alive's Erin Calandra spoke with a neighbor who told her she was shocked by the news. That neighbor said the family is quiet and usually seemed happy.

"Her kids ride the bus with my kids," the neighbor said. "I'm shocked actually, because you don't ever hear anything from them...and this is a really quiet neighborhood, so if anything were to happen, we would have heard about it."

Officers recovered a handgun from the home, though they have not indicated who it belonged to. At this point, investigators say it's too early to say whether charges will be brought in the shooting. The investigation continues.
