Man who survived being hit by car in Atlanta dies hours later

Despite being alert and breathing at the scene, police said 52-year-old David Gordon died hours later.

ATLANTA — A pedestrian that police say was alert and breathing when he was rushed from the scene of an accident was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified 52-year-old David Gordon as the victim in the incident.

Police said Gordon, known to family members as "Lil Dave," was walking in the area of Rogers Avenue and Cascade Road around 9 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle.

Gordon was taken to the hospital and was listed as "alert, conscious and breathing" when he left the scene. Despite being described as stable, police said the victim was pronounced dead at around 10:15 p.m.

Atlanta Police said the driver remained on the scene and was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Investigators are now working to determine if new charges are applicable.
