Teacher requested substitute after allegedly killing boyfriend

He was later killed after crashing into a dump truck while fleeing police.

A DeKalb County teacher requested a substitute teacher for his class after he allegedly killed his boyfriend, school officials confirmed.

Police believe Roy McClendon-Thompson shot and killed 45-year-old James Curtis Jones at his Dunwoody apartment early Monday.

Later that morning, a social studies teacher at McNair High School told school officials that he needed a sub for his class, according to DeKalb County School spokesperson Shumuriel Ratliff.

Later that day, McClendon-Thompson died after crashing his Cadillac into a dump truck as police pursued him.

In the early morning hours of April 6 -- days before his death -- Jones called Dunwoody Police and said that McClendon-Thomas had threatened him.

McClendon-Thomas denied the threats and said that he'd blocked Jones from his phone. The responding officer wrote, “I did not discover any threatening text messages in the victim’s cellular device."

Back in March, McClendon-Thompson was arrested after being accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was the chief financial officer, according to police reports. He was released on bond two days later.
