Teen charged in double homicide has first court appearance; no bond set

Johnny Rider, 19, the teen charged with killing his girlfriend's grandparents, had his first court appearance today, April 13.

A teen accused of killing his girlfriend's grandparents had his first count appearance on Thursday.

Johnny Rider, 19, is charged with murder and aggravated assault in the the deaths of Randall and Wendy Bjorge, both 63 years old.

Rider and his 17-year-old girlfriend, Cassandra Bjorge -- the deceased couple's granddaughter -- are accused of bludgeoning the couple to death.

The judge presiding over Thursday's hearing, Judge John Ireland, addressed Rider to make sure he understood he was charged with two murder charges in addition to some other charges.

Rider said he was not aware of this but complied when the judge said he would get the paperwork from his lawyer. The judge stressed to him to not discuss the case with anyone outside of his attorney.

No bond was set for Rider at this time.

Rider, who was hospitalized along with Cassandra Bjorge after what police believe to be a suicide attempt, had already been booked into jail on separate charges related to an earlier incident in which he allegedly beat his sister with a baseball bat and pepper sprayed her.

Police said Cassandra Bjorge had previous run-ins with the law as well, including being accused of assaulting her grandmother when she was 16.
