These GOP lawmakers from Georgia are OK after fatal train crash

Georgia Republican lawmakers who were on board the Amtrak train involved in Wednesday's fatal collision near Charlottesville, VA took to social media in the minutes following the wreck to let constituents know they were okay.

Many of Republican members of the Georgia congressional delegation were on the Amtrak train that crashed into a garbage truck in Crozet, VA on Wednesday. One person was killed in the wreck.

The train was carrying the lawmakers and many of their family members to a Republican retreat in West Virginia. President Trump was also scheduled to fly to West Virginia on Air Force One for the retreat on Thursday. He has been briefed and has been receiving regular updates.

Those who were on board quickly took to social media to let their constituents know that they were OK -- including representatives Buddy Carter, Drew Ferguson, Karen Handel, Austin Scott, Jody Hice, Barry Loudermilk and Rick Allen.

Congressman Tom Graves said he took alternative transportation to the retreat and was not on board the train.

Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue were both in Washington and not on board the train.

The University of Virginia Health System said five people were transported to the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. One person was reported in critical condition there. The others were being evaluated.
