SOUTH FULTON, Ga. -- Authorities confirm three people have now died as a result of a Monday crash involving a train and a passenger vehicle.
South Fulton Police Department Lt. Derrick Rogers said it happened around 4 p.m. on the train tracks at Buffington Road near Roosevelt Highway.
Officials confirmed two fatalities and said two more people also had to be taken to Grady Hospital. A third victim died later that evening. hey have now been identified as Lidonda Carter, 40, Santania McDowell, 18, and Mackenzie Mack, 16.
Police confirm charges are now pending in the crash.
Video from the scene showed a car severely mangled by the accident.
Crews from CSX also appeared to be on the scene of the accident investigating the crash. 11Alive reached out to them for further information, but they have yet to respond.

A witness told 11Alive she was sitting at the red light when she saw a black Impala with the four women inside drive around two other cars to try and beat the train.
"The train was already there, and I just seen the train hit the car and took the people down the street," Shardai Jett said.
Jett she went over to the car and tried to do what she could after the train hit, but she knew right away the paramedics were necessary.
"The only person alert was the driver," she described.
Jett said she sent her condolences to the family.
"It was just tragic," she said.
