ATLANTA — A driver going at least 100 mph in the early morning Saturday in a residential part of west Atlanta died in a fiery crash, Atlanta Police said.
Officers responded to the crash report at about 5:30 a.m., police said.
They said the car hit a curb and retaining wall on Hamilton E. Holmes Drive, drove off the roadway, crashed into a tree and caught fire. Footage from the scene showed that the car came to a stop a short way beyond Oldknow Drive.
Atlanta Police said the driver hit a low wall on Hamilton E. Holmes Drive, blowing out a tire. The vehicle continued a short way down the road before coming to a stop and catching fire.
It’s not clear if the driver died by impact or in the fire.
Atlanta Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the driver’s death.
