Stacey Abrams attends panel discussion on voting rights, women's suffrage

Abrams talked about her role as a black woman running for office.

ATLANTA — A group gathered Friday night in Atlanta to talk about voting rights and the legacy of women's suffrage.

The event "Voices on Voting: A Discussion of the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage" included a panel with Stacey Abrams and Stephanie Evans, and moderator Mo Ivory.

It was held at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Abrams talked about her role as a black woman running for office.

"Our best way of owning the system is by swarming the system," she said. "We do that in part through our votes, but we also do it through higher and higher levels of engagement in the process."

Since 2018, Abrams has become a political darling among Democrats and had a close run for governor of Georgia against Brian Kemp.
