Police: Man charged after detonating explosive in residential neighborhood

Neighbors called police after they said an explosion nearby could be felt in their homes.

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- A man is being investigated for allegedly making and detonating explosive devices inside his neighborhood.

Andrew Davidson, 30, lives in the Towne Lake community in Woodstock and neighbors contacted law enforcement after they said they felt an explosion on February 15, 2018.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office of Criminal Investigation Division and federal authorities searched Davidson's home and determined that he detonated an explosive. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's office, Davidson was injured when the first device went off and required treatment at a local hospital.

"The suspect had explosive materials, which when mixed together could make an explosive device, in addition to other materials commonly used for bomb making," authorities said in a press release.

There were no other devices found at the home, but Davidson did have materials in his home—all legally bought—which police said could be used to produce additional devices.

Davidson has been charged with conspiracy to commit an offense involving explosives, destructive devices. He is being held at the county jail with no bond.

Authorities said there is no indication that he planned any terroristic activities, nor had he made any threats.
