A task force of Atlanta-based FBI agents has crossed the globe to bring a murder suspect back to the U.S. to face justice after 22 years.

Hector Ulises Garay was arrested on an unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant Tuesday in El Salvador, Tuesday for the alleged murder of a Norcross, Georgia man in 1996.

Members of the FBI's Atlanta Metro Major Offender (AMMO) Task Force made the arrest of the 51-year-old man after a lengthy investigation.

On Jan. 21, 1996, investigators believe Garay shot and killed Adalberto Salines in his home during an attempted robbery. It took over two decades, but now Garay is back in Gwinnett County - now in jail and awaiting trial.
