TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A Florida state senator wants the state to do away with Daylight Saving Time.

Republican Senator Greg Steube, who represents Sarasota and Charlotte counties in Florida, has filed a bill to exclude Florida from the controversial - but still somewhat national - time change. If it passes, Floridians would be in standard time between March and November.

The measure has been introduced several times before and has failed. But if it passes now, Steube said it would go into effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
