North Georgia teacher arrested for having heroin on school grounds

Students and other staff members noticed the teacher was acting odd leading up to her arrest.

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — A teacher was arrested Wednesday for allegedly bringing drugs on school grounds.

A spokesperson for Whitefield County Schools said Raqeul Eleana Spencer was arrested after school resource officers at Northwest Whitfield High School found heroin during a search, 11Alive's NBC affiliate WRCB in Chattanooga reported.

According to the spokesperson, students and other staff members noticed Spencer was acting odd leading up to her arrest.

Spencer was taken to the Whitfield County Correctional Center and charged with VGCSA (Violation Of The Georgia Controlled Substance Act) possession of heroin.

In a statement, the district said "The superintendent is taking necessary steps to recommend termination. If she is released, she will immediately be placed on administrative leave pending further proceedings regarding her employment."
