Police officer's dance video of the 'Git Up Challenge' goes viral

There's no stopping 'country-rap' this summer.

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Officer Sirdarius Rashod Benton of Henry County Police describes himself on his Instagram as “#thedancingcop,” and he’s got the views to prove it.

Benton has posted plenty of videos of his moves in the past, but he’s never gone viral quite like this before.

The officer’s version of the “Git Up Challenge” has gotten millions of views across various accounts on Instagram and Facebook, according to a screenshot he posted on his Instagram.

“A grateful good morning everyone‼️ Today I am grateful for seeing the video I made a few weeks back reach so many people in different communities NATIONWIDE‼️ OVER 10 MILLION VIEWS,” he wrote on his account earlier this month. “It brings joy, peace, and people together. That’s all I ever wanted to do with these videos I make. Not to become famous, but to bring law enforcement & communities together. Showing a different side of law enforcement helps bridge that gap and starts to form a bond between us.”

The ”Git Up Challenge” has spread in popularity thanks to the song “The Git Up” by Blanco Brown.

In the same "country-rap" vein as Lil Nas X’s megahit “Old Town Road,” Brown’s song puts a hip hop beat to line dancing.

The lyrics command dancers to, among other moves, “To the left to the left now / To the right to the right / Now take your left hand and put it on your side / Gone roll your shoulders / Do the slip and slide.”

The “challenge” is simple: Do the dance.

Benton, in his video, performs it masterfully.

The officer also noticed when 11Alive ran his video in a segment on Morning Rush on Wednesday:

“Soooooo this just happened … Momma I made it‼️ Shout-out to 11Alive for sharing my video!” he wrote on Facebook.
