Hall Co. confirms 16th rabies case of 2012

A rabid skunk was found in northern Hall County this week -- the county's 16th case of rabies so far this year.

LULA, Ga. -- A rabid skunk was found in northern Hall County this week -- the county's 16th case of rabies so far this year.

The skunk was discovered near Lula Road in Lula, where it made contact with two cats, according to Hall County spokesperson Nikki Young. It tested positive for rabies Tuesday at the Georgia Public Health Lab.

Most of this year's rabies cases involved skunks, although a rabid bobcat was discovered in Gillsville in January.

Anyone who sees animals acting strangely is urged to call Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830.

Pet owners are encouraged to vaccinate their cats and dogs for rabies. Vaccines are $10 each and are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter in Gainesville.
