Why is fall now the most popular time for weddings?

ATLANTA – It’s time for the leaves to change colors, to taste some pumpkin spice, and to slip on that bridal veil and get married.

Remember when young girls dreamed of becoming a June bride? That’s no longer the trend.

Summer is no longer the most popular time for weddings, and there are several reasons why fall has taken the lead as the most popular time to tie the knot.

Wedding experts say it’s not a shift, that wedding season has stretched.

“Georgia is one of those areas where the hot, humid summers aren’t exactly ideal for an outdoor wedding,” says Jenna Miller of Here Comes the Guide.

Outdoor weddings are becoming more popular, and thus the emergence of the fall wedding in the south.

“So guests aren’t too uncomfortable,” says Ivey Jacobson of The Knot. “The fall foliage is gorgeous, and a lot of couples want that in their photos.”

A lot of families use the summer months to take trips to the beach or overseas. Wedding planners say fall ceremonies are a way to avoid interfering with their guests’ vacation plans.

With September and October growing in popularity, some couples are turning to November. Families are using holiday time to watch their loved ones walk the aisle.

"Everybody’s ready for Thanksgiving, Christmas, everybody’s in that joyous spirit,” says groom Johnathan Summerton.

So while there will always be those June brides, more and more grooms are falling to one knee with their eye on a fall wedding.
