Paulding Co. mother, son die in Alabama crash; father, two more sons still hospitalized

The boy's school announced third-grader "passed away in a terrible automobile accident."

COVINGTON COUNTY, Ala. — A third-grade boy in Paulding County and his mother died in a car crash in Alabama this week, the boy’s elementary school in Dallas, Georgia, announced Wednesday.

The school, W.C. Abney Elementary, posted a notice to Facebook that third-grader Larenz Graham “passed away in a terrible automobile accident.”

The school said the boy’s father and two brothers were still in the hospital.

A GoFundMe linked to in the school’s notice identified Landie Romulus as the mother of the boy.

NBC affiliate WSFA in Montgomery reported that the family’s car was struck head-on after 18-year-old Joseph Cameron Worley lost control of his Chevy Camaro and veered into the oncoming lane. Worley also died.

“As of now, speed looks like it’s going to be one of the main contributing factors," Alabama trooper Sgt. Drew Brooks told the station.

The stretch of highway where the collision occurred, the station reported, is busy with cars usually headed to the beach. It’s also an area rife with reckless driving.

“It is a full-time job for us to combat aggressive driving and speeding," Brooks said.

WSFA spoke to a woman who lives near the crash site and heard the collision.

“I’ve lost sleep over this since this happened,” Ellizabeth George told the station.

The GoFundMe for the family has raised almost $7,000 of a $10,000 goal as of Thursday afternoon.
