Several metro Atlanta cities made history in Tuesday night's elections.
Forest Park voters elected its black female mayor, Angelyne Butler. Butler defeated a re-election bid from incumbent Mayor David Lockhart.
“This is what happens when you truly pull together,” Butler said. Now the work starts. Our community must unite so we can make Forest Park an even greater place to live for everyone. This could not have happened without a collective effort and the support of the community.”
In Gwinnett, Craig Newton ran unopposed to become Norcross’ first black mayor in history, while Rey Martinez became the first Hispanic to become mayor of Loganville.
