Keisha Lance Bottoms, Mary Norwood headed for runoff

A runoff will be held Dec. 5 to determine Atlanta's 60th mayor in history.

Two Atlanta city councilpersons, Keisha Lance Bottoms and Mary Norwood are headed to a Dec. 5 runoff to determine who will be Atlanta's 60th mayor.

Lance Bottoms is leading the race with 26%, followed by Norwood with 21%, with 100% of precincts in Fulton and 100% of precincts in DeKalb reporting.

The race's first results came in around 9:35 p.m., with Lance Bottoms surging to an early lead and never relinquishing her her first-place lead.

Norwood also never surrendered her second place position.

Former Atlanta city councilperson Cathy Woolard carried DeKalb County handily, but that wasn't enough for her to overcome an apparent third-place finish.

Polls closed in the city of Atlanta and Fulton County at 8 p.m., with results coming in later than in other elections where polls traditionally closed at 7 p.m.

Both candidates were on 11Alive's Morning Rush and spoke to Shiba Russell about what's next.
