Stacey vs. Stacey | The difference between the two Democrat Governor candidates

Both Stacey's, Stacey Evans and Stacey Abrams, are lawyers with many years of experience as state representatives.

Democrats will have to decide between two candidates in the race for Georgia’s governor on Tuesday as it’s the battle of the Stacey's.

Both Stacey’s, Stacey Evans and Stacey Abrams, are lawyers with many years of experience as state representatives. However, there is another Stacy in this race if we want to be technical, Lowell Stacy "Casey" Cagle. He goes by Casey, so we'll focus on the other two Stacey’s.

If Abrams wins, she would become the first African American governor in the state of Georgia and the first African American woman governor in the nation. Evans, just like Abrams, would become the first woman governor.

That's two barriers that both candidates would break.

Unlike the mayoral race in the city of Atlanta, which leans Democrat, the state-wide gubernatorial race leans Republican. In the 2014 election, 72 percent of counties in Georgia went red for Nathan Deal even though he won about 53 percent of all votes cast. That election looked similar to President Donald Trump's victory in Georgia.

Could this be the year Georgia votes blue? Both Evans and Abrams hope so.

Abrams has been putting all her energy into voter registration targeting the state's non-voters and minority voters. She also wants to expand Medicaid and invest in the quality of public education.

Evans, the first in her family to go to college, has been advocating for enhancing the HOPE Scholarship making technical colleges tuition free with her slogan "Bring Back Hope." She wants to revitalize the scholarship funding and raise the minimum wage.

Who is backing these two women?

Abrams is endorsed by Congressman John Lewis, Congressman David Scott, and Hank Johnson.

Evans also has many endorsements like former Governor Roy Barnes, DeKalb County D.A. Sherry Boston, the Georgia Federation of Teachers, and State Representative Keisha Waites.

Both women are passionately making a case for why they should be the next governor and whoever gets the party's nomination will be one step closer to making history.
