ROME, Ga. — After a 10-year effort to memorialize locals who fought and died in the Vietnam war, the 525 Purple Heart Chapter made it a reality.

The group unveiled a new monument at Myrtle Hill Cemetery Tuesday that displays the names of 22 men who lost their lives and earned a Purple Heart military decoration.

The chapter has been raising money for the past decade in order to make it happen.

Now, the monument stands tall in Veterans Plaza, at the cemetery.
