Former 5-star WR, UGA transfer Demetris Robertson cleared to play by NCAA

Robertson, a former five-star wideout from Savannah, tallied 57 catches, 837 yards and seven touchdowns as a freshman at Cal (2016).

You can never have enough blue-chip athletes in a Power Five program.

Just ask head coach Kirby Smart.

On Friday, UGA learned that receiver Demetris Robertson, a transfer from the University of California, would be eligible to play immediately, after receiving a special waiver from the NCAA.

A former five-star prospect who accounted for 57 catches, 837 yards and seven touchdowns as a freshman at Cal (2016), before incurring an injury-shortened campaign in 2017, Robertson (prep days at Savannah Christian School) could potentially enjoy three full seasons in Athens.

As such, Robertson will be joining a Dawgs cast of playmakers that includes Terry Godwin (38 catches, 639 yards, 6 TDs last year), Riley Ridley (4-star wideout from 2016), Mecole Hardman (5-star athlete from 2016), J.J. Holloman, Tyler Simmons, D'Andre Swift (4-star tailback from 2017) and Elijah Holyfield Jr (4-star tailback), among others.

No. 4 UGA opens the season in three weeks (Sept. 1), taking on Austin Peay at Sanford Stadium. The following Saturday, the Bulldogs will travel to South Carolina for a high-profile encounter with the Gamecocks.
