UGA Insiders: Kirby Smart, Dawgs score another 4-star recruit from Louisiana

A slew of UGA prospects showed up for this weekend's event, but only Makiya Tongue, a 4-star wideout from Louisiana, left as a commit.

This was a huge recruiting weekend for the Georgia Bulldogs and their coaching staff. The West Endzone Reveal was on Saturday and a ton of prospects showed up for the event, but one prospect in particular, Makiya Tongue, left as a commit.

Tongue, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound wide receiver told Rivals.com last month that the connections he built with the coaching staff during previous trips helped shape his decision.

"When I was at Georgia, everyone was cool with each other and everyone wanted the best for everyone there," Tongue told Chad Simmons of Rivals.com in late June. "I talk to Coach [Cortez] Hankton a lot, and we have a great relationship. I really like Coach Kirby Smart, too. I can tell that he really likes me and wants me there. He is a great coach."

Tongue is the first prospect to commit to Georgia from Louisiana since Michael Chigbu did in 2015. Like Chigbu, Tongue will play wide receiver for the Bulldogs, but also has the ability to play linebacker if needed.

"I do think if they wanted him to come play linebacker then he would still be excited because he is still open to it, but the fact that they are willing to let him come in as a receiver is definitely playing in their favor,” Tongue's father, Reggie, told UGASports.com's Trent Smallwood following an official visit to Athens in June.

Smart and his coaching staff have three top commits at the wide receiver position: Jaden Haselwood, five-star, Dominick Blaylock, four-star, and Tongue, four-star.

Tongue’s commitment marks the fourth for the Bulldogs in the month of July and the Dawgs have the potential to add more before the month is over.
