Ex-Atlanta Hawk removed as Arizona hoops coach amid allegations of sexual misconduct

Last weekend, 40-year-old Mike Bibby had led Shadow Mountain High in Arizona to its fourth straight state championship in boys' basketball.

Former Atlanta Hawks guard Mike Bibby has been indefinitely removed as head basketball coach at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona, which could be connected to a police investigation into allegations of sexual abuse and harassment.

On Tuesday, Paradise Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Becky Kelbaugh emailed the following statement to AZCentral.com:

"(Bibby) is no longer eligible to volunteer as our coach, pending the outcome of the investigations," wrote Kelbaugh.

It's worth noting: The statement doesn't cover what would happen to Bibby's status, if he were exonerated from all accusations, once the investigation concludes.

Details remain sparse regarding Bibby's direct role in the alleged misconduct, outside of Phoenix police confirming it involved staff members at Shadow Mountain High.

"Our first priority is always the safety and well-being of our staff and students," district officials said in a previous statement. "We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously and work in cooperation with law enforcement on all police matters."

Shadow Mountain had just captured its fourth straight state title last weekend, with all championships occurring on Bibby's watch.

According to USA TODAY, Shadow Mountain enjoyed a 140-6 record versus Arizona opponents in recent years, "one of the best runs in Arizona high school basketball history."

The 40-year-old Bibby primarily served as the Hawks' lead guard during this three-season tenure with the club (2008-11).

For the 2008-09 season, the University of Arizona product (national title in 1997) averaged 15 points, 5.1 assists and 1.2 steals, while helping Atlanta claim its first playoff series victory in 10 years at the time.
