Braves respond to claims that Dems, women weren't invited to All-Star game announcement

State Senator Jen Jordan said Democratic women who represent the area weren't asked to attend.

SMYRNA, Ga. — The Atlanta Braves are responding to a Georgia state senator who accused the ball club of having a lack of women and Democratic representatives at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game announcement on Thursday.

Video from the announcement shows Cobb County Commissioner Bob Ott next to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

The only woman and Democrat of the elected representatives at the event was Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms - something that got a lot of comments since Cobb County - not Atlanta - will be hosting the big game.

This also got the attention of State Senator Jen Jordan. She wrote on Twitter asking why Cobb's Republican county commissioner was invited - but she wasn't. Neither was State Representative Teri Anulewicz. Both are Democrats that represent the districts containing SunTrust Park.

Well, here's what the Atlanta Braves had to say about it:

“The Braves were honored to have the Governor, the Mayor of Atlanta, and a Cobb County Commissioner attend the 2021 All-Star Game announcement.  Each of these people, and the entities they represent, directly assisted in helping to achieve this successful bid.“

They also point out that SunTrust Park is in Commissioner Ott's district.
