ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Falcons have signed linebacker Sean Weatherspoon to a 1-year deal, a source with knowledge of the negotiations confirmed to 11Alive.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news.
Weatherspoon agreed to a deal with the Falcons on Tuesday. The team approached him last week about joining the Falcons. He worked out in Flowery Branch on Monday, and he signed with the team Tuesday morning.
It is the third time Weatherspoon has joined the Falcons since getting drafted in 2010.
He was with the team last season, but he ruptured his right Achilles tendon last October against the Carolina Panthers.
Weatherspoon has 328 total tackles, eight sacks and two interceptions in his career.
Falcons rookie linebacker Duke Riley will undergo knee surgery because of an injury he suffered in Sunday night's loss to the New England Patriots.
The Falcons are 3-3 this season.
