Report: Former Browns OC Todd Monken joins Georgia staff

According to UGASports, former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Todd Monken will join the Georgia football staff in the same position.

CLEVELAND — After hiring Kevin Stefanski as their head coach earlier this week, the Cleveland Browns' coaching staff remains in flux.

But at the very least, we now know that as expected, Todd Monken won't be returning to Cleveland.

According to UGASports.com, Monken has accepted the offensive coordinator position on Kirby Smart's staff at the University of Georgia. Monken spent the 2019 season serving as the Browns' offensive coordinator, although it was head coach Freddie Kitchens who called the team's plays.

Despite arriving in Cleveland as a highly touted hire following a successful stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Monken never seemed to quite click with Kitchens or quarterback Baker Mayfield. Despite possessing a plethora of weapons in Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, the Browns offense struggled throughout the 2019 campaign, ranking 22nd in both yardage and scoring as Cleveland amassed a disappointing 6-10 record.

With Kitchens and general manager John Dorsey both fired at season's end, Monken's departure from Cleveland is nothing more than a mere formality. While Stefanski is still in the process of assembling his staff, at the very least, we now know that Mayfield will be entering 2020 with his fourth offensive coordinator in three seasons with the Browns.
