ATLANTA – It’s 90 degrees in Atlanta and even on the hottest days you’ll find a group of people bundled up like its winter.

Jim and Denny with Ice Carvings Everywhere spend most of their days inside an 18-degree freezer sculpting ice.

Ice sculpting is believed to have begun a long time ago by the Chinese who would pull chunks of ice from frozen rivers and form shapes. Today, the same concept is used except 300 pounds blocks are made and sculptors use nicer tools.

Jim has been sculpting for years creating large pieces like a 30-foot-tall Jack and the Beanstalk. But he also creates smaller pieces as well.

“Smallest pieces are usually ice cubes,” Jim said. “We do make cocktail ice cubes. They are really trendy.”

Modern-day sculpting has been made simple by the use of computers where Computer numeric control programs do most of the carving for you.
