ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation is showing roads clear again after an accident on I-285 in Atlanta that temporarily shut down the major route on Thursday night.

The agency's maps initially showed that all northbound lanes were closed due to the accident. Atlanta Police Officer TaSheena Brown said the crash appeared to involve multiple vehicles - as many as three - but said that everyone involved who couldn't get out on their own had been removed from the wreckage.

Brown said that while there appear to have been multiple injuries, responders don't believe any are life-threatening.

Maps showed the backup starting just north of I-20 and south of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. However, the map, at one point, also showed that backup building south past Boulder Park Drive.

As of 11 p.m., traffic cameras showed high volume following the reopening of the interstate but cars appeared to be moving smoothly again in the area.
