Truck spills tons of ink on I-285, causes massive traffic backup

GDOT said the tractor trailer was carrying 41,000 pounds of ink.

ATLANTA — All lanes are blocked after a tractor trailer overturned on I-285 SB at MLK Jr Dr. early Wednesday morning.

GDOT said the tractor trailer was carrying 41,000 pounds of ink. Officials were able to remove the tractor trailer around 6:00 a.m., but they are still cleaning the ink from the interstate. Officials were also trying to make sure that none of the ink or oil made its way into the draining system.

Officials told 11Alive that traffic is being diverted at Hollowell Pkwy. Traffic is backed up for miles all the way to Vinings.

The I-20 eastbound and westbound ramps to I-285 southbound are blocked.

Alternate routes.

Drivers can use South Cobb Drive, Bolton Road and the Downtown Connector as alternate routes.

Traffic Tracker Crash Clark says officials will be cleaning this incident throughout the morning.
