ATLANTA — It's finally raining in Atlanta after an extended drought, and it comes as a welcome relief in just about every way except one: Traffic is a nightmare.
Watch out as you begin your commute on Wednesday morning - there were already as many as three dozen wrecks around the metro well before the peak of rush hour.
The big one so far is at the top end of the Perimeter, involving a tractor trailer and blocking some of the right lanes on I-285 westbound near Chamblee Dunwoody Road.
Another wreck on I-285 northbound on the east side is slowing things down near Covington Highway, and also causing backup on I-20 westbound. That's not even the only wreck reported on the east side Perimeter - things basically aren't moving in the northbound lanes past Lawrenceville Highway with a wreck reported at Lavista Road.
I-285 northbound is also struggling on the west side with a wreck south of S Atlanta Road.
I-75 southbound is at a complete stop in Henry County with a wreck at State Route 13, and at the opposite side I-75 southbound is at a crawl in Cobb County with a wreck reported at the Cobb Cloverleaf.
And lanes were blocked on GA-400 northbound at Holcomb Bridge, which is causing southbound traffic to slow down and take a look.
I-85 southbound is stalling in North Druid Hills with a wreck at Clairmont Road, and it's characteristically slow between Hwy. 316 and I-285 in Gwinnett County.
You can count on the Downtown Connector being bad as well, with I-75/85 northbound barely moving past the I-20 interchange.
I-285 eastbound on the south side has also practically come to a stop, with a wreck near Panthersville Road causing a headache for south DeKalb commuters.
