Child dies after being hit by truck in driveway

'We cannot begin to imagine what the family is going through.'

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A family is mourning the death of a toddler after she was hit by a truck in a driveway in Gainesville over the weekend.

Gainesville Police posted on its Facebook page that Nazareth Alarcon, who is nearly 2 years old, was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado in a driveway on Auburn Avenue.

The accident happened Saturday around 1 p.m. First responders came to the scene and the child was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition. However, she later died, police said.

"The incident appears to be an accident, the child walked into the path of the moving vehicle," officers said in the Facebook post. "Traffic investigators with the Gainesville Police Department are investigating"

Chief Jay Parrish is asking everyone to keep the family in their thoughts.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during these tragic and trying times," Parrish said. " We cannot begin to imagine what the family is going through, however we will be here to support them in any way we can."
