Crews battled truck fire on northbound I-285 by Northlake Pkwy

Three lanes of traffic were shut down.

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Crews were working to put out a Waste Management truck that caught on fire along Interstate 285 by Northlake Parkway Thursday morning. Officials said the driver was not hurt in the incident.

Fire officials said the truck's cab was completely in flames when crews arrived. Three of the four northbound lanes just past SR 236 and Lavista Road were blocked, according to a Georgia Department of Transportation alert. Traffic from Clarkston into College Park was backed up along I-285.

Crews used firefighting foam to suppress the flames because the truck was ran by compressed natural gas, fire officials said. The foam was spread across three lanes of traffic to cool the flames before the gas ignited. A few emergency vehicles were at the scene.

Fire officials do not know how the fire started.
