Crews work for 12 hours to clear tractor trailer accident, fuel spill

Around 4 a.m. on Thursday, crews were able to reopen I-20 after Wednesday's crash when a fuel tanker and another big rig crashed, causing the tanker to turn on its side.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- After 12 hours, crews were able to clear an accident that involved two tractor trailers, spilling fuel onto a busy Interstate.

Around 4 a.m. on Thursday, crews were able to reopen I-20 after Wednesday's crash when a fuel tanker and another big rig crashed, causing the tanker to turn on its side.

It blocked all the westbound lanes on I-20 in Cobb County, near the intersection of Six Flags Parkway. Backups stretched back on I-20 all the way past Hamilton E. Homes nearing the Anderson Avenue exit.

But cleanup was further complicated by a fuel leak. Emergency responders had to redirect drivers off at Fulton-Industrial Boulevard.
